Q: How Do I Manage Pinned Sessions and Share a Stable QR Code?

Answer:

If you host recurring events like weekly services, classes, or regular meetings, you know how tedious it can be to update the QR codes and links in your presentation slides, printed posters, or bulletins every single time.

That’s where Pinned Sessions come in. Instead of updating your materials for every event, you can use a stable access link (your_instance_name.spf.io/z) and a stable QR code that never needs to be changed. By pinning a session, that single link will automatically route your audience to the correct active session, saving you time and keeping your materials evergreen.

Understanding the Two Pinning Approaches

To ensure your stable link always sends attendees to the right place, you first need to set a default session. Go to Menu > Sessions, and in the Sessions list locate the small pin button next to a session’s title. spf.io gives you two flexible ways to control this routing, depending on your event’s workflow:

  • Dynamic: Auto-update to the newest session (Blue Pin)
If you want your link to automatically forward to whichever session you created most recently, use the dynamic setting. By double-clicking the pin icon, it will turn blue. This tells the system to always route your /z shortcut to your latest session—perfect for recurring weekly events.
  • Static: Lock to a specific session (Green Pin)
If you are hosting a multi-day event or want to keep one specific session active regardless of newer sessions being created, click the pin icon once. It will turn green. This locks your /z shortcut to that exact session, and it will remain pointed there until you manually change it.

Sharing with Your Audience

Once you have your default session pinned, you can share access with your attendees using either your Stable QR Code or Stable Link.

1. Stable QR Code

  • On the Sessions page, look for the filter and search box.
  • Click the QR code icon located on the right side of the list. Then click Download QR Code.
  • You can now place this stable QR code permanently on your physical and digital event materials.

To share with your audience: Print it out for attendees to scan easily. (Note: remind them that they must open a camera app or a QR code scanner app on their device to use this functionality).

2. Stable Link
To share a text-based link, you can use your shortcut URL.

  • Direct your audience to visit: (your_instance_name.spf.io/z)
  • Troubleshooting: If you visit your /z shortcut and it points to the wrong session, simply go back to your Sessions list. Check if a session has a green pin locking the shortcut to an older event. You can easily fix this by clicking the pin button twice to return it to the blue default setting, which will point it back to your latest created session.

To share with your audience: Share the event link directly with attendees. Find out how to get a printable poster with the link here.

You can also download our instructional slide file on how to access the Audience View and display these slides on the screen during your event.

🎉 Once your audience scans your stable QR code or visits the /z URL, they will immediately enter the Audience View on their smartphones.
