When listening to AI translation of a conversation, it can be hard to tell who is speaking. That’s because the translated voice sounds the same for everyone. This can lead to confusion and moments where people feel disconnected from the discussion.
To make listening easier and conversations flow smoothly, we’ve built distinct AI interpreter voices in spf.io Convo. Now, spf.io Convo can assign appropriate and distinct AI voices based on gender, so each speaker sounds different across languages. This makes it easier for listeners to recognize who’s speaking and follow the conversation.
How Distinct AI Interpreter Voices Work
Before the session begins, participants input their gender. Spf.io uses each input to automatically assign distinct AI interpreter voices. For example, if five participants are speaking in their native language (two men and three women), listeners may hear up to three distinct female voices and two distinct male voices.
Voice assignments are currently randomized within each gender, but the variation still helps listeners tell speakers apart. However, not all languages have the same variety of available voices yet. In sessions with many speakers, some voices may occasionally repeat. Even so, spf.io works to keep voices as distinct as possible, and we’re continually expanding our multilingual voice options to make conversations even more dynamic.
