Listen in your language with Cloud Text-to-Speech

Jun 4, 2024 | Blog, Dashboard, News

Nothing compares to the feeling of listening to something in your own language.

We recently worked with a church that wanted to engage more deeply with Ukrainians in their community. We started providing live text translation of their worship services, but discovered that people loved hearing their own language instead of reading it.

This led us to develop Cloud Text-to-Speech (TTS), enabling people to listen to live translations in their language. Unlike text-only translations that require constant reading and can sometimes be less engaging, Cloud TTS provides a more immersive way for people to experience your event.

The Benefits of Cloud Text-to-Speech

  • Increased engagement: Cloud TTS enables your audience to choose how they receive translation–by reading, listening, or both simultaneously. This empowers everyone to actively engage in your event regardless of their preferences or visual abilities.
  • Versatile use: Ideal for worship services, classes, lectures, conferences, and town hall meetings, whether online, hybrid, or in-person. Just share your session’s URL or QR code, and your audience can listen to translations in their language with just one click. Use it to provide live descriptions for people with low vision.
  • Consistent & higher quality voices: Before, could use your phone’s built-in voiceover capabilities to read translation aloud. However, this led to inconsistent experiences because every device supports different voices for different languages with varying quality (i.e. sometimes they sound too robotic). In contrast, Cloud TTS produces higher-quality voices that are consistent across all devices.
  • Reduced complexity & cost: Traditional interpretation requires hiring interpreters for each language, which can be costly and logistically challenging. Cloud TTS eliminates the need for multiple interpreters by providing high-quality, real-time audio translations. This reduces the complexity and cost while ensuring that every audience receives the same quality experience.

Cloud TTS is available as an add-on to our Automatic Captions & Translation product, so there’s no need to download additional apps. Existing customers can add Cloud TTS to their plan for a nominal fee per language by contacting us.
