Quick Start Guide: Set Up Automatic Captions & Translation with Autopilot
Welcome to spf.io! This quick guide shows you how to use Autopilot mode on Automatic Captions & Translation (ACT) to launch your first real-time translation session. For the best experience, we recommend using the Chrome browser.
To begin, go to your spf.io URL (https://your_instance_name.spf.io/studio/) and log in with your account.
Step 1: Create a New Session
Alternatively, navigate to Sessions > Create Session from the sidebar.
2. Enter the session name.
3. In the Active Channel, first, select the source language you’ll be speaking (e.g., English). Then, choose the target language for your translation (e.g., Spanish).
4. If you’d like your audience to hear the translation, go to Options > Audience Audio Settings.
-
-
Activate Text-to-Speech for the entire language list, or for the specific languages you want to enable.
-
You can also select a male or female voice for the audio.
-
5. When you’re ready, click Create New Session.
You can reuse the same session for your event. Just adjust the settings to meet your event needs.
Tip: Set a session default to create a settings template that will be automatically applied every time a new session is created.
Reduce repetitive tasks to set up session configuration and make it consistent for all team members with Default Session Settings. This new feature allows you to create a standard settings template that will be automatically applied every time a new session is created within your account.

Step 2: Set Up as Speaker
*This is an audio permission example from the Chrome browser (the recommended browser to use 👍🏻).
Learn more about setting up your microphone or audio input for high quality captions in this article.
3. Make sure the active source language is the one you’ll be speaking (in this example we use English)
4. Switch on Autotranslate to translate automatically, and switch on Autopilot to auto-release the translation.
Step 3: Start Speaking and Verify the Audience View
Tip: For the best transcription accuracy, ensure a clean audio environment. This means focusing the input solely on the speaker’s voice and muting the microphone whenever music, hymns, video sound clips, or any other non-verbal audio is played.
Pick a language on the Audience view (in this example we use Indonesian) and show your captioner and audience view side-by-side to see the result.
On the Audience View, you will see the captions appear. If you turn text-to-speech on for the caption language, there will be a speaker icon to turn on and off text-to-speech.
Step 4: Share Your Session with Your Audience
Tip: Keep the same URL or QR code across sessions.
You can create a one-time link (your_instance_name.spf.io/z), which will always point to your pinned session by default, so that you can reuse it to share with your audience by pinning a session.
First, pin the session you want to set as the default. There are two ways to set a default session using the pin feature:
- Always pin the last session you created: Double-click the pin icon on any session in your session list. If this feature is active, your last created session will always have a blue pin icon.
- Keep a session active throughout your event: Click once on a specific session. If it’s active, the session you pinned will have a green pin icon color.
Second, share it as a link, or generate a QR code by clicking the QR icon on the session list and then downloading the code.

And that’s it! You’ve just run your first translation session.
